Manasa Deva is also known for being the snake goddess. She is worshipped most often in Bengal and other North-Eastern states of India. According to legends, Goddess Manasa is the daughter of Lord Shiva. Some scriptures say that she was the daughter of Sage Kashyapa. She could be distantly related. She is Vasuki’s twin and Sage Jaratkaru’s spouse. Due to confusion regarding Her parents, Goddess Manasa cannot enjoy the same status as other gods. She is a furious Goddess to those who refuse to worship her, but extremely kind to those who worship Him with devotion.
