Vibhishana, Ravanas Good Brother_1
Vibhishana was also known as Bibhishan and was the younger brother to Ravana, who is the Demon King from Lanka in the epic Ramayana. Vibhishana, though an asura, did not display the typical behavior of his clan. In fact, Vibhishana was a noble character, great devotee, and seventh avatar of Sri Maha Vishnu's Lord Rama. He is also the central character in the Ramayana. Vibhishana, who was all for peace, tried to warn Ravana not to abduct Sita, Rama's wife. He wanted Sita back to her husband. Vibhishana left him when he refused to listen and joined Rama’s army. He eventually helped defeat Ravana. According to Sinhalese history, Vibhishana is one of the Sathara Waram Deviyos or four guardian deities. This belief was prevalent during the Kotte period. Ravana Katha from Wickramasinghe Adigar tells us that Vibhishana as King ascended to the throne after Ravana was defeated by Rama. His Yaksha capital was then moved from Alakamandawa to Kelaniya. He was revered by Goddess Pattini is the God of the Four Warrants after the 16th century. A small group of devotees continues to worship him, mostly in the Kelaniya region.
