Vedas provide key information on Hindu culture and society. Veda in Sanskrit is the Sanskrit name for revelation. Veda talks in great detail about the incarnation of a number of great kings. Veda provides details on the incarnation kings of great stature, the Mahabharata as well as gods or devils.

Vedic Tradition

The outsiders wrote many theories about Vedic tradition. They said Vedas were worse and more primitive than savages (as reported by Max Muller, the historian).

The Vedic principles were the foundation of society before the outside invasion. However, the leaders who invaded wanted the people to follow their traditions.

The anonymous Purana writers wrote them

Smriti is known for many books. There are over 18 Maha (main) Puranas and Upa (subcategory), each with more than 400,000 verses. Upanishads resemble four Vedas as they are branches.

1180 books total make up this collection. They were all first thought of vocally by teachers to young scholars and then written as books. The lack of preservation has caused the loss of this knowledge.

The Veda

The Rigveda contains over one hundred hymns covering 10,600 verses. These eight chapters were composed by saints Atri Vashistha Kanwa Jamadagni Vishwamitra Gotama & Bharadwaja. Sama Veda consists of a number of melodies (saman), which are musical notes that are connected to Rig Veda.

Yajurveda was used for religious ceremonies and the Yagya, which were sacrificial events performed by saints. The Atharv-Veda contains charms and spells. It gives you a clearer picture of society.
